Primary Care Physicians
Sutter Physicians Alliance

What it means to be with Sutter:
My doctor is more like a friend who happens to know a lot about medicine. I don't feel intimidated or rushed during our visits— we just talk about what's going on with my body. Yes, I sometimes hear about exercising more and eating better, but I need to be reminded about those things once in a while. And I know my doctor talks to me about taking care of myself because it matters to her. She really wants me to stay healthy—like all my friends do.

Your primary care doctor is your best ally in the quest to stay healthy. Together, you can monitor your health and deal with the health issues that keep you from feeling your best. Many health plans require that you select a primary care physician (PCP) who will provide routine care for you and your family members and who will coordinate referral to other Sutter specialists, when needed. Even when it is not necessary to select a PCP, it is a good idea to have a general health doctor who knows you and can help prevent illness, provide screenings and examinations, and offer care for minor accidents and illnesses. The medical specialties on the left provide broad care to specific patient groups and are recognized as PCPs by most health plans.
